Lunch at Flower Child

So I accidentally fell a bit behind on my blog schedule and went a little longer than I had planned to go without posting. But that’s okay, things happen right? Anyway, I’m back now and I’m here to talk a little bit about something completely unrelated to fashion but one of my favorite things none the less: FOOD.

Last week, my friend Nikki and I were out working on something cool for my blog (😏) and we decided to stop at this cute little restaurant called Flower Child for lunch. Nikki had been here before and, because we were both pretty starving, she suggested we walk over to and get some much needed food.

The restaurant itself it super cute. There are fresh flowers everywhere, which I really appreciate and their decor is pretty dreamy (marble tables swoon).  I also really love their sign, which you can see in the distance of the photo below (curse me for not bringing my zoom lens). It has a little lemon on it! Which of course pleases me because it makes me think of Beyoncé. . .but I don’t think that’s what Flower Child had in mind when they created their branding.

 

The real reason for the lemon logo, I assume, is their rotating lemonade flavors. I’m not sure how frequently they rotate their flavors but that’s still pretty cool. I did a little research online and they’ve had rose lemonade, cranberry honey ginger lemonade, and basil lemonade (which sounds sooooo good) so it’s safe to say they have a pretty wide variety of combinations.

Admittedly, I have no idea what flavor I got, because I honestly wasn’t paying attention. They had so many different teas and drink combinations that I was too busy sampling them all to realize what I actually ended up getting. But whatever the lemonade flavor was, it was sour. If you like your lemonade extra tart, than this will be perfect for you. If not, just add in a sugar packet or two, like I did, and it’ll be delicious.

Now for the most important part of the experience, the food!

I got a Mix N’ Match plate with:

• grilled chicken
• red chili glazed sweet potatoes (with bok choy and sesame seeds)
• sweet corn and quinoa (with greek yogurt)
• avocado (with sea salt and olive oil)

And it was delicious. First off, they give you a whole entire avocado which I didn’t think was a thing that could actually happen somewhere. Nikki and I were shocked when we realized it was indeed a whole avocado. I truly felt blessed.

 

The red chili glazed sweet potatoes were good but probably my least favorite thing on the plate. I LOVE sweet potatoes, and I mean LOVE them. But what I like most about them is their sweetness paired with some salt and pepper to offset the sugariness of the potato. The red chili glaze, which tasted pretty much like teriyaki, was sweet as well. So it was sweet-on-sweet and after a little while, too sweet for me. And you may think it’s questionable that I would favor a plain avocado over asian inspired sweet potatoes, given the fact that I love sweet potatoes so much. BUT I love avocados even more. Part of my brain is dedicated solely to counting down to the next time I’ll eat an avocado.

My favorite part of the meal was the sweet corn and quinoa. It tasted like creamed corn, which I think is due to the greek yogurt, and it was just so satisfying. It was sweet and salty and smooth and ugh, I want it right now.

Full disclosure though, it’s a little bit pricey. If I were to go again, I would probably skip the chicken. Not because it wasn’t delicious, it totally was, but because the sides are my favorite part of any meal, aaaaaand it takes a full $5 off of the price. Plus they have so many unique veggie and grain options, I’d rather give them all my attention.

To top the day off, I saw so many dogs while eating at Flower Child, including the cutest Corgi puppy possibly to ever exist. The dogs-seen-there to time-spent-there ratio was a dream come true.

All in all, I had a great time at Flower Child and would recommend you check it out if you’re in the mood to sit outside and eat something healthy and delicious (and see some good dogs).
