Goodbye 2017 and Hello 2018!
To celebrate the start of the new year, I decided to put together a post about some of my favorite things from 2017.
Silver Ankle Boots
I’ve talked about these boots here before, and yes, I’m still obsessed with them. I’ll admit, I don’t get as much wear out of them as I probably should (maybe that’ll be my New Year’s resolution), but I’m just as happy just looking at them in my closet.
ColourPop ‘Yes, Please!’ Palette
Technically I’m cheating on this one, because this was actually a gift, but only because I could never seem to catch it while it was in stock. I totally would’ve bought this with my own money. It’s the perfect palette, super cute and portable, and has the potential to create a sweet and soft eye look or a really bold one.
I’m a total Disney freak and one of my favorite things to do in the parks is collect pins. One of the best parts of 2017 for me was that I was able to visit both Walt Disney World and Disneyland. It was actually my first time at Disneyland EVER, so that was really exciting and magical for me (I meant to write a blog post about my trip and never got around to it … total fail on my part, but let me know if you guys would still want to see that 😊). Naturally I had to buy a “few” pins to commemorate my visits. These puppies are some of my most prized possessions and I am not ashamed!
Paramore – After Laughter
Before I even start talking about this album, we need to talk about how Hayley Williams is such an underrated vocalist it’s upsetting and annoying. Okay, now that we’ve got that out of the way, let’s move on. I’ve never had an experience with an album quite like I did with After Laughter. There are so many songs on it that I listen to and am like, “me.” It came along at the perfect time in my life, and I have a really strong emotional bond with it. It’s just such an honest album, and the mixture of the serious lyrics with such upbeat 80s sounding music is so so good.
Lorde – Melodrama
This was easily the most anticipated album of the last four years, and definitely the most anticipated album of 2017 (for me, at least). Lorde is one of my all time favorite artists, and she did not disappoint with Melodrama. It’s moody, raw, heart wrenching, and boppy at the same time. Truly Lorde doing what she does best. I loved this album so much I already wrote an entire blog post on it. So, I would like to take this time to personally thank Lorde for releasing this album, it was life changing and made me forget the pain of waiting four years for it.
Kehlani – SweetSexySavage
You know, I actually read recently that Kehlani wasn’t really happy with this album, and that it wasn’t really representative of the music she wanted to put out there. While that makes me a little sad, it doesn’t change the fact that I LOVE this album. From the moment I heard SweetSexySavage, I knew it was gonna be one of my favorite albums of the year, and the fact that it came out in January and still made my top three really says something. It has a little bit of everything and it’s all SO GOOD. Seriously, if you’re not already listening to Kehlani, do yourself a favor in 2018 and become a fan.
Favorite TV Shows
1. A Series of Unfortunate Events (Netflix) If you’re needing a little nostalgia in your life, A Series of Unfortunate Events is a great place to start. If you’re in your 20s, you probably grew up watching the film of the same name, or reading the books, so the Netflix original series will definitely hit you right in the childhood. But regardless of your history with the series, the show is just really good. It’s beautiful to look at and wonderfully whimsical and dark all at the same time.
2. Riverdale (The CW) Unless you’re living under a rock, you’ve probably heard about this show at least once before. I started watching this show on one of those I-have-nothing-to-watch-on-Netflix-but-don’t-want-to-get-out-of-bed days, and picked Riverdale because I remember the trailers looking interesting, and I wanted to see what alternate universe Cody Martin was up to. And man, oh man, was I sucked right into this show, and the twists and turns, and all of the drama. Oh yeah, and Archie is hot.
3. Imposters (Bravo) Okay, so this show is on Bravo, a channel which, even though I love me a good reality show (*cough* Vanderpump Rules *cough*), is not exactly known for producing great television. This show, however, is surprisingly good. It’s one of the only Bravo originals that’s a scripted TV show and it’s about a scam artist and her victims-turned-scam-artists that are trying to hunt her down. There’s also a pretty big twist in this show that literally made my jaw drop open. Imposters is a nice little gem hidden among the Housewives that I think you should get into.
4. The Bold Type (Freeform) In my opinion, this is the most important show to come out of 2017, and the best show that Freeform has ever made. It’s funny, emotional, inspiring, and just downright good. The Bold Type is the perfect blend between feel-good and feel-badass and it’s such a refreshing and honest snapshot of the life of a 20-something year old woman. I honestly can’t say enough about this show, and anything I do say won’t do it justice. Seriously ladies (and gentleman), just sit down and watch this show.
Honorable Mention: The Arrangement (E!)
